Some studies indicate that hypnosis can cut down on pain and complications and possibly even shorten labor Goodreads is the world’s largest site for readers with over 50 million reviews. Her main point is that most of the natural world gives birth without medical intervention, and that we, as natural beings, should also be able to do this.
I did find the trust in the natural process of birth a little extreme. I didn’t want anyone picking it out of the garbage and accidentally reading this.
What I did find extremely helpful, though, were the breathing techniques and basically all of the explanations about how your hypnobirthinng works itself through this natural process and what you can do to “stay out of the way”. Some of the visualization techniques suggested seem kind of hokie to me like imagining yourself floating on a “strawberry cloud,” or that your uterine muscles are flowing “blue satin ribbons”but I’m sure that kind of visualizations work for some people.
These relaxation techniques have helped me approach moments where I would of otherwise lost patience or felt discouraged, instead hypnobidthing calm, creative and even find humor.
The book gives a brief history of the way birth has evolved to become a more medical event and how fear has crept into the process unnecessarily. I am now a hypnobiething believer that we’d all be better off if we self-hypnotized and consciously relaxed for a few minutes every day. Thanks a lot there, my buddies in the Vatican, for freaking out generations of pregnant mamas! Jan 05, Annette rated it did not like it Recommends it for: And I almost lost a foot in a car wreck, and have broken more bones than is really normal, so I’m pretty familiar with pain. While urged to practice them often, they are not taught well enough that I would know if I was doing them right or what Mongan even means by certain instructions.

So don’t give me this BS no pun intended about animals doin’ it “naturally. Seeing is very much believing and I can honestly say I’m blown away everything I’ve read and seen so far surrounding this approach to positive childbirth. And so, for most of my teenage years I assumed that Well, well. I did find many similarities – hypnosis in this sense is little different from how Bradley Method talks about relaxation. I burned this book after giving birth. The author talks of giving birth in a nice, trusting, positive environment, where you feel calm and loved and accepted.
The concept of hypnobirthing sounded like a good one to me to aid in the accomplishment of natural birth.

Marei, I have done years of yoga, and I know that you can stay in control and breathe through pain, to a certain degree. On the negative side, the book seems to present a moral philosophy of birth rather than information based upon research or current understanding of medical practices.
It goes to the heart of what we in HypnoBirthing frequently puzzle over: I felt like I should be doing a little bit more of that hyponbirthing now.
