Return to Book Page. The writing was so beautiful y’all.
It’s like, I felt with them and I rooted for them in their journey all over Charyn but my heart was always back in Lumatere, I became so protective of that kingdom without even knowing it I would get so angry when lumattere character talks lumagere about it.
This is where the lost king comes in, only he could break the curse and reunite the people and that’s exactly what Finnikin will work to make happen. Every element and world is fully created, fascinating and infused with meaning way beyond this fantasy island. This time his eyes met hers and all those times Celie imagined he could be weak in spirit were swiftly crushed by the force of his stare.
I loved and cried over my favorite characters and the hardships and obstacles that they encountered. All the boys within this trilogy really do hate the person who they fall madly in love with, so typical haha. Objectively, the world building is problematic those population numbers for Lumatere simply do not make sense in light of their cultural variety and political importancebut the language, the plot and, above all, the characters simply make it not matter.
Be the first to discover new talent! I had some issues with Finnikin of the Rock the first book on my initial read, though I genuinely like it in retrospect, and Quintana of Charyn was excellent and it and FotE are really one novel tbh but FotE was my favorite – all the plot and romance and character development and near death experiences and ohhhh, my favorite OTP!
These books were just simply precious. OTP you do not like: Fans of Finnikin of the Rock and Froi of the Exiles will find deep satisfaction in this finale to the Lumatere Chronicles. Immediately earned a spot on my all time favorites list!
That still makes me want to bawl. Other Series You Might Like. There is nothing about this book I didn’t love, even though it was really annoying for me to adjust to reading a book with a male hero because it’s been some time since I last had. It’s kind of like reading a really excit One of the few series I’m into lately. Basically throw an OTP at me from this series and I ship it. Trevanion and Beatriss continue to heal each other, make that village she bought a success and are awesome parents to Vestie.

Now to the plot. I’ll probably elaborate more later. To be frank I did not like Finnikin of the Rock when compared to the books that followed this trilogy. Lymatere it Forward Read it first. And a curse is put on Lumatere, which traps those caught inside and forces thousands of others to roam the land as exiles, dying of fever and persecution in foreign camps.
Apr 04, Helen rated it it was amazing. They’re kind of trippy, for lack of a better word. Titles in Order Sort by: An imposter king sits on the throne of Lumatere, ruling over people who physically can’t leave the lumatrre. There are no straight roads for these heroes, and I enjoyed my inner conflict of wishing them an easier path, yet relishing in their turmoil.
Soon he must unravel both the dark bonds of kinship and the mysteries of a half-mad princess in this barren and mysterious place.
Ugh yikes yikes yikes. I was on my toes the whole time urging Foi to go back, or shouting at Trevanion to go find him. The pinch chrlnicles red on her cheeks. I absolutely loved Froi. I will read more from her. Great characters with interconnected fates!! Kindle Editionpages.
The Lumatere Chronicles | Melina Marchetta
Froi and Quintana feel happy and safe and as if they belong. Angered by the carnage, Seranonna of the Forest Dwellers proclaims a dark curse, trapping the people of Lumatere inside. All that remains are a pair of bloody little handprints on the kingdom’s door, presumably those of Bathalzar, the lost prince.
I’ve read the reviews of other people and I know that a small minority shares my favoring of this book over the other two. The King is always keen for me to know of any strangeness that may cause interference with his stay. She pushed aside the chronicles and made room for herself to sit on the trestle, preferring its height.
It was a journey that kind of brings you closer to your own home, where you feel more connected lumatwre your people and your mother tongue, I just can’t explain it. But the books actually had an amazing character arc for him, both explaining where he came from and how it is he thought violence, whether with fists or otherwise, chrnicles the only acceptable way without excusing it, and also allowing the character to slowly, painfully grow into a worthy person, never sweeping the past under the rug.
Oh, and Isaboe makes friends her age. And on rereading FotR in light of what we learned about her past and what drove her at the end of that book, I ended up loving her there as well. At the age of nine, Finnikin is warned by the gods that he chrpnicles sacrifice a pound of flesh in order to save the royal house of his homeland, Lumatere.
