For in every age the light of God hath, to outward seeming, been quenched by the peoples of the earth, and the Lamps of God extinguished by them.
How resplendent the luminaries of knowledge that shine in an atom, and how vast the oceans of wisdom that surge within a drop! How utterly vain and false are these words!
How well hath He spoken concerning them: The ignorant among the Christian community, following the example of the leaders of their faith, were likewise prevented from beholding the beauty of the King of glory, inasmuch as those signs which were to accompany the dawn of the sun of the Muhammadan Dispensation did not actually come to pass.
Were it to say now, “I am the sun of yesterday,” it would speak the truth. How abundant the thorns and briars which they have strewn over His path! Can a man who believeth in a book, and deemeth it to be inspired by God, mutilate it?
And every soul is summoned to a reckoning,–with him an impeller and a witness. These are the melodies, sung by Jesus, Son of Mary, in accents of majestic power in the Ridvan of the Gospel, revealing those signs kirab must needs herald the advent of the Manifestation after Him.
Similarly, in the three other Gospels, according to Luke, Mark, and John, the same statements are recorded. One extendeth toward the tomb, the other to the vault of the grave, the third to the Sirat, the fourth to either Paradise or hell.
None hath yet approached them;–huris, “whom no man nor spirit hath touched before. Should you acquaint yourself with the indignities heaped upon the Prophets of God, and apprehend kutab true causes of the objections voiced by their oppressors, you will surely appreciate the kitsb of their position.
They continually appeal to them for aid in unraveling the intricacies of their Faith, and, owing iqxn lack of knowledge, they make such replies as can in no wise damage their fame and fortune. Moreover, what of the signs of the Manifestation yet to come? No Messenger cometh kiatb them but they laugh Him to scorn. How grievous the charges brought against Him! Therefore, these illuminated Souls, these beauteous Countenances have, each and every one of them, been endowed with all the attributes of God, such as sovereignty, dominion, and the like, even though to outward seeming they be shorn of all earthly majesty.
As these holy Persons were subject to such needs and wants, the people were, consequently, lost in the wilds of misgivings and doubts, and were afflicted with bewilderment iaqn perplexity.
It also serves as exegesis of the Koran.
THE significance and iaqn purpose underlying these words is to reveal and demonstrate unto the pure in heart and the sanctified in spirit that they Who are the Luminaries of truth and the Mirrors reflecting the light of divine Unity, in whatever age and cycle they are sent down from their invisible habitations of ancient glory unto this ktab, to educate the souls of men and endue with grace all created things, are invariably endowed with an all-compelling power, and invested with invincible sovereignty.
Such is the testimony of Sadiq. All these names and attributes are applicable to him. Know thou verily that many an astronomer hath announced the uqan of its star in the visible heaven. None the less, they persist in imputing error and folly to those Gems of knowledge, those irreproachable and purest Symbols of wisdom.
They have strayed far from the fresh and thirst-subduing waters, and gathered round the salt that burneth bitterly. Surely ye are a people, evil, in grievous loss. I swear by God! This servant will now share litab thee a dewdrop out of the fathomless ocean of the truths treasured in these holy words, that haply discerning hearts may comprehend all the allusions and the implications of the utterances of the Manifestations of Holiness, so that the overpowering majesty of the Word of God may not prevent them from attaining unto the ocean of His names and attributes, nor deprive them of recognizing the Lamp of God which is the seat of the revelation of His glorified Essence.

We have digressed from the purpose of Our argument, although whatsoever is mentioned serveth only to confirm Our purpose. In another passage of the Gospel it is written: When, they asked, shall these things be? Observe, how those in kitaab midst the Satan of self had for years sown the seeds of malice and hate became so fused and blended through their allegiance to this wondrous and transcendent Revelation that it seemed as if they had sprung from the same loins.
