CS is driven through a HC decoder. Meanwhile, thanks for your suggestion. Microchip are usually pretty thorough. And so seems to be the case. If it is, I clock the result out. Changing the address pins with the enables strapped active is likely to cause glitches. This is a best guess: User Control Panel Log out. But I’ve read it and read it and I cannot see anything that would tell me.

I don’t know why this should be. I’m now back to the first code but with a small adjustment. By coincidence, I am transitioning with one bit change only. Thanks for your help. It seems unlikely but it would explain the random nature of the results.
